Plexure

Word-family and scope

Plexure is an editorial heading unverified for a word-family the corpus itself usually renders as plexion and implexion. It is not the Plex region of the Numogram. In “Barker Speaks”, “machinic plexion” names the anorganic tension and elasticity through which trauma, memory, drive, identity, and person must be retuned away from an interpretive psychology (Texts/Books/Author/Time Spiral Press/ccru-ccru-writings-19972003-1.pdf, p. 159).

Plexion is cross-scale involvement without strict repetition. The spinal argument says that bodily and phylogenetic blocks connect episodically and diagonally rather than by an isomorphic chronological ladder; elsewhere earth-history proceeds through infolding, involution, or implex rather than linear causation (Texts/Books/Author/Time Spiral Press/ccru-ccru-writings-19972003-1.pdf, p. 162).

The word-family consistently marks entanglement as an operation: a product loops into its conditions, a scale folds into another scale, or an intensive threshold is invested before authority supplies an interpretation (Mark Fisher/Texts/Books/Author/Mark Fisher - Flatline Constructs; Gothic Materialism and Cybernetic Theory-Fiction.pdf, p. 176). It should therefore not be flattened into “complexity” in the loose sense of having many parts, because the cited uses concern how levels become mutually implicating and causally tangled (Mark Fisher/Texts/Books/Author/Mark Fisher - Flatline Constructs; Gothic Materialism and Cybernetic Theory-Fiction.pdf, pp. 176–177).

Geotrauma as machinic plexion

“Barker Speaks” approaches Freud through signals analysis, retaining trauma while stripping away prejudices about the personal source and hermeneutic meaning of functional patterns (Nick Land/Texts/Essays/LAND -- Barker Speaks.pdf, p. 2). The geocosmic unconscious then quantizes life and thought through anorganic tension, elasticity, and machinic plexion rather than locating them in an individual's interpretive interior (Nick Land/Texts/Essays/LAND -- Barker Speaks.pdf, p. 2).

On this account the Hadean conversion of impacts into heat becomes an anorganic memory: external collisions are looped into an insulated terrestrial interior that continues to drive planetary change (Texts/Books/Author/Time Spiral Press/ccru-ccru-writings-19972003-1.pdf, p. 159). Regression into the earth's body is simultaneously regression through geocosmic time, joining spatial depth to temporal recursion rather than treating either as metaphor (Nick Land/Texts/Essays/LAND -- Barker Speaks.pdf, p. 2).

The iron core, Cthelll, is described as nonsubjective memory of the Outside because stored thermic disequilibrium drives plate tectonics and electromagnetic activity in the present (Nick Land/Texts/Essays/LAND -- Barker Speaks.pdf, p. 2). Plexion thus replaces a representation of past catastrophe with the catastrophe's continued mechanical implication in current bodies and processes (Texts/Books/Author/Time Spiral Press/ccru-ccru-writings-19972003-1.pdf, pp. 159–160).

Spinal and phylogenetic diagonals

Spinal catastrophism treats erect posture as a frozen calamity linked to plate-tectonic shifts, so body-plan and crustal convulsion belong to one bioseismic history (Nick Land/Texts/Essays/LAND -- Barker Speaks.pdf, p. 3). Its regression is explicitly real rather than representational: DNA operates as a transorganic memory-bank and the spine as a fossil record without requiring ontogeny to repeat phylogeny point for point (Nick Land/Texts/Essays/LAND -- Barker Speaks.pdf, p. 3).

Plexion names the diagonal relation between blocks of machinic transition, allowing mammalian DNA to carry latent fish-code without mapping every spinal level onto a redundant chronological stage (Texts/Books/Author/Time Spiral Press/ccru-ccru-writings-19972003-1.pdf, pp. 161–162). The adjacent palate-tectonic argument extends this diagonal into language, treating the vocal apparatus as a crash-site produced by the right-angled collision of thoracic impulses with the roof of the bipedal mouth (Nick Land/Texts/Essays/LAND -- Barker Speaks.pdf, p. 3).

Implexion, order, and horror

The AxSys text gives implexion a political and affective edge. Oedipal law is described as command over primal implexion, while horror directly invests a virtual threshold of implexion before reference to authority or persons. Across these uses, the family names folding-within and implication as material operations, not interpretive complexity alone (Texts/Books/Author/Time Spiral Press/ccru-ccru-writings-19972003-1.pdf, pp. 113–114).

AxSys imposes order by superposing sequences and regularizing their intervals; its decimal epistrata harmonize implexions into scalable relations between stacked levels (Texts/Books/Author/Time Spiral Press/ccru-ccru-writings-19972003-1.pdf, p. 108). In the Oedipal passage, State paternity monopolizes normativity by imposing itself over a concrete maternal-filial bond, making law's sovereignty a capture of implexion rather than its source (Texts/Books/Author/Time Spiral Press/ccru-ccru-writings-19972003-1.pdf, p. 113).

Horror takes the inverse route: it invests an abstract-machinic threshold of implexion directly, generating affects prior to authority and indifferent to persons (Texts/Books/Author/Time Spiral Press/ccru-ccru-writings-19972003-1.pdf, p. 114). The contrast is functional rather than moral—the same field can be regularized by an ordering stack or activated as a prepersonal intensity (Texts/Books/Author/Time Spiral Press/ccru-ccru-writings-19972003-1.pdf, pp. 108, 113–114).

Strange loops and hyperfiction

Fisher calls the strange loop a “radical implexion” in which a process's product also becomes one of its founding presuppositions and a supposedly subordinate level escapes into a higher one (Mark Fisher/Texts/Books/Author/Mark Fisher - Flatline Constructs; Gothic Materialism and Cybernetic Theory-Fiction.pdf, p. 176). Unlike a meta-system that seeks a transcendent frame, the corresponding hyper-system subtracts unity and connects through an Outside that changes the nature of its multiplicities (Mark Fisher/Texts/Books/Author/Mark Fisher - Flatline Constructs; Gothic Materialism and Cybernetic Theory-Fiction.pdf, p. 176).

In In the Mouth of Madness, genre descriptions are implexed into the diegesis so that the film recursively processes its own horror programming without claiming to transcend it (Mark Fisher/Texts/Books/Author/Mark Fisher - Flatline Constructs; Gothic Materialism and Cybernetic Theory-Fiction.pdf, p. 179). The film approaches a schizo-implex by inserting its own title and promotion into its fiction, but an “inviolable layer” remains because its fictional novels cannot be purchased outside the cinema (Mark Fisher/Texts/Books/Author/Mark Fisher - Flatline Constructs; Gothic Materialism and Cybernetic Theory-Fiction.pdf, p. 182).

This later usage clarifies the word-family's common operation: plexion is neither simple enclosure nor simple connection, but a coupling in which what looked external to a process is folded into its genesis and what looked internal can escape its assigned level (Mark Fisher/Texts/Books/Author/Mark Fisher - Flatline Constructs; Gothic Materialism and Cybernetic Theory-Fiction.pdf, pp. 176, 182).
